Online first aid courses

Yukon workplaces fall under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (RSY 2002, c. 159) and its Regulations, Part 18, with the number and level of first-aiders scaled to workers per shift and site remoteness. The WSCB recognizes CSA Z1210-17-compliant certificates — Standard First Aid for most workplaces, Advanced for remote or higher-hazard sites.

Yukon's Child Care Centre Program Regulation (O.I.C. 1995/087) under the Child Care Act, s.8(1) requires each group of children to always be in the care of at least one caregiver certified in a director-approved first aid course. New hires may be given up to six months (180 days) to become certified.

Under Yukon's Emergency Medical Aid Act (RSY 2002, c. 70), a person who voluntarily and without expectation of compensation provides emergency medical services or first aid at the scene is not liable for damages unless there is gross negligence, covering both health professionals and laypersons. There is no legal duty to rescue and no dedicated AED statute — lay AED use falls under the same general immunity.

Nurses in Yukon are regulated by the Yukon Registered Nurses Association (YRNA), which requires a mandatory Continuing Competency program submitted annually by March 1 — a self-assessment/quality-assurance process rather than fixed hours, into which clinically relevant BLS or CPR training can be included. In hospital, long-term-care and community settings a current BLS or CPR certificate is generally an employer requirement rather than a licensing condition.

In Yukon, continuing-care homes and community-care services are staffed by Health Care Assistants, and a Standard First Aid/CPR-C certificate is generally required of the care aides who staff them. A recognized, up-to-date certificate meets this expectation, in addition to the aide's occupational training, and must be renewed periodically.

Yukon foster parents (aged 19 or older) are approved by Family and Children's Services under the Child and Family Services Act after background checks and a home assessment, and a current first-aid and CPR certificate from a recognized organization is commonly required as part of caregiver preparation. It is expected under agency practice rather than a single explicit statutory clause, confirmed by the territorial children's services worker.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Yukon for personal, childcare-licensing, and employer purposes, with the practical portion normally completed in person. Certification is valid for 3 years and is built on the ILCOR 2025 Consensus on Science.
